It is one smart thought for a long-long time. To bring around green revolution for the second time, the foremost thing is to make the tiny tots in school aware of the importance of a good environment. Small things learned in school become habits with time and they stay with an individual mostly for life. It is important thus for every society to inculcate the habit at the right place (school) and right time (infancy) and hence the right result would be achieved. The other day i visited the mall and saw small kids whistling at people not chucking waste at the right places. Their cause was well supported by the local cops to make their whistle an impacting one. Such steps are necessary to bring about a revolutionary change.

I totally agree with you Atul. inculcating green habits from the very beginning become second nature for children. My kids refuse to use the shower ever since they learnt from school that using a bucket and tumbler saves more water.

It is sweet to know that your children avoid using a shower because they were told that using a bucket and tumbler saves more water. A child’s brain is like a blank page waiting for sermons to be written on it. It depends on the way those sermons are written that a child develops good or bad habits concerning their environment. The methodical approach is practical teaching rather than sermonizing those little darlings. We people cannot take to sermons (Aastha Channel) then how can we expect kids ways younger to soak those sermons. They should be taken places to plant trees and other activities should be included in school to make it an entire fun affair. Activities taught in a lighter vein become habits, sermons just make the children ignorant.

I too agree that if taught from a tender age to live green, kids can grow up to be more responsible for their planet.

But most of the times, all this green teachings and eco projects in school fail to leave a permanent impact on kids.

I am always on a crusade for recycling envelopes, plastic bags, using buckets while bathing (like ur kids) and many more green causes. Educating kids needs to be followed up by keeping a tab on how well they implement green lessons.

Also we use only Navneet notebooks for writing as they are supposed to be eco-friendly.

Thanks Radhika, but its still not working. I guess some issue with DNS server.

I am an absolute believer in teaching kids value of nature, its resources and making sure they know never to take anything for granted. Actually schools do have projects and subjects but it should be followed up in home too. As you had mentioned in one of your earlier comments (in another post), not many people really care about environment and kids should not feel its a burden to be eco-conscious... rather it should be a habit not to waste resources.

My kid goes to this school and they have eco-messages on all their buses like using less water, switching off lights etc... nice to see young generation growing up with more awareness.
