Towing Blues of MumbaiHave you ever got your car towed because of parking violations?
I have.
I am not going to crib about why my car was towed, because 3 out of 4 times, it has been my fault. I want to bring to your notice another major issue.
Every time the towing van wants to tow-away an illegally parked car, the Traffic cop along with the helpers steal your car! I have actually seen the people open doors of cars using rulers or scales, so that they can put the car in neutral gear, thus making it convenient to tow. I have actually argued with the cops whenever I have witnessed this illegal activity. I don’t think they have a right to open people’s cars in such a manner. As usual, voicing such opinions in front of authorities is useless. The nexus will find a way to get out of the sticky situation. I wish someday a really peeved person finds the might to sue the cops for opening his car without his consent.
Till then, just take care of what you leave behind in your car, you never know when it might get towed!

I can’t say anything about the-some-peeved-person-might come-and-sue-the-cops part but I myself have seen a live show into which the cop alongwith some people how drag the two-wheelers, least bothered that in that process they are harming the body of the bikes etc., with scratches and all.
All the owners could do and watch and when the show ends go and complain to the cop. some do it a little aggressively. Some pose to be a little meek. Others act as passerbys and watchers.

The nexus neutralises everything at some point. Someday, I am sure things ought to change.

You are correct Radhika, I too have faced this situation and feel helpless. To top to the misery, when you got to fetch your car, they make you wait for a long time citing some invalid reasons. That fuels the whole situation further. And who DARE confront these cops?

you are absolutely right in your obsevations.Police authorities have no right tosteal your car.Though I have not faced such a situation yet I am not in favour of such action by police. This only encourages car robbers.perhaps they are from the labor force accompnying the traffic cops.

But why we, as good citizens, cannot park the car at the proper place to help the police or do not give them a chance to induldge in unlawful activities.
